Charles H. Pugh Ltd, of  Birmingham,

formed by Charles Henry Pugh in 1901, later to become known for its famous product, the Atco Lawn Mower.

The company manufactured parts for many other businesses including chains, carburettors etc, including the famous Senspray carburettor used on motorcycles. A donkey had been used to pull their lawn mower around the factory grounds which sadly died, this prompted the management to look at an alternative and within two years they developed and started manufacture of the first mass produced petrol driven lawn mower
